Comorbidity with other disorders (co-occurrence with others) Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder in which an individual starves themselves, exercises excessively or eliminates food in other ways (eg. vomiting), until they are at least 15% below their ideal body weight. Anorexia tends to develop early (as early as 6 years old), most commonly during teenage years. It often affects people with perfectionistic/obsessive personalities (self-critical, high achievers etc. ). It is more common in middle and high socioeconomic status brackets.
