They both originate from the same latin word. Motive - our needs, wants, interests and desires. Homeostasis - a tendency of the body to maintain itself in a state of balance or equilibrium. Primary driver - innate drive (food, drink, sex) Secondary driver - become drivers through conditioning (money) Intrinsic motivation - doing something because it is inherently interesting or enjoyable (no tangible reward) eg. playing sport because you love it. Extrinsic motivation - doing something because it leads to a separable outcome (reward) eg. doing work you do(cid:374)(cid:859)t lo(cid:448)e for (cid:373)o(cid:374)e(cid:455) or praise. To be motivated means to be moved to do something. Motives can be: biological - things that are evolutionary eg. hunger and thirst motives, social - things that are influenced by external factors eg. achievement and dominance motives, a combination of both. Why is motivation important: helps to u(cid:374)dersta(cid:374)d people(cid:859)s (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iour.
