What does this mean for me?
- I must
o Begin work on assessment early so I can submit the best work I can
o Submit written work that is written and researched by me
o Acknowledge and correctly reference any source from which you draw ideas or
quotations
What are sources?
- Published sources
o Books/textbooks
o Articles (magazines, newspapers, journals)
o Websites
o Plays
o Movies
o Photos/paintings
o Sound recordings
- Unpublished sources
o Lectures, lecture notes
o Other studets’ writte work
o Speeches
o Emails
What about common knowledge?
- Material is common knowledge if
o You find the same information undocumented in at least 5 other sources
o You think it is information your readers will already know
o You think a person could easily find the information with general reference sources
- If in doubt, over-attribute
Plagiarism
- Referecig does’t alwas ake it okay
- Word for word plagiarism
o No quotation marks, taking as appears in original text
- Failure to acknowledge all quoted material
o Use quotation marks but not around the whole quote
- Patchwork plagiarism
