1. 23 and ½ hour video:
knee arthritis-> reduce pain and disability by 47%
deetia ad Alzheiers -> reduce progression by 50%
diabetes-> reduce progression to frank diabetes to 58%
post menopausal women-> reduce risk of hip fracture by 41%
Anxiety-> reduced by 48%
Depression -> relieved by 30%- 47%
Harvard alumni-> % loer risk of death tha those ho didt hae the treatet
No. 1 treatment for fatigue
Medicine = exercise (walking ~ ½ hr)
Aerobic centre longitudinal study:
Attributable fraction= number of deaths that could have been prevented had the risk factor
been eliminated (e.g. smoker to non- smoker)
Low fitness = strongest predictor of death
Obesity + no exercise = BAD!!
Obesity + exercise = GOOD
Dosage for exercise?
how much= 30min
how often= interval
how intense = high
<150min per week = bad
1990s annual health screen in Japan found:
<10min = no difference
11-20min = 12% reduction in rates of high blood pressure/ hypertension
>21min = 29% decrease in rates of high blood pressure
+10min = 12% reduction in likelihood of getting high blood pressure
German research: measure effect of a stent (balloon to keep artery open) on CV patients.
Tested 100 cardiac patients: half with stent (high tech)/ half exercise per day (low tech)
88% low tech were event free (WHOLE body)
70% high tech were event free (ONE part of the body)
Both worked, but the low tech was more effective
Sitting disease:
people who watch TV can expect to live 5 years less tha those ho dot
(Average adult in US watches 5hr TV per day)

How much does physical activity reduce pain and disability in those with knee arthritis?
47%
How much does physical activity, with other lifestyle interventions, reduce the progression
to diabetes in those at risk?
58%
Describe the benefits of having high cardiorespiratory fitness.
Reduced mortality rates and decrease chronic disease risk
Explain the amount of exercise required to achieve health benefits.
>150min per week (30min of moderate intensity) in intervals or blocks
Describe the health risks associated with prolonged sitting.
Increased risk of chronic disease (CVD, diabetes mellitus, and cancer)
6hr per day of sitting creates issues and causes death 5 years earlier.
