Document Summary

Summary: th1 cells -> autoimmune diseases (dm), rejection of organ transplant, th2 cells -> allergic disease (asthma, th17 cells -> autoimmune diseases (ms) Ve = uncontrolled lymphocyte activation & unregulated ab production can lead to tissue damage and organ dysfunction; pathogenic immune dysfunction is responsible for hs reactions, immunodeficiency and autoimmunity. Imbalances may result from genetic defects, infection, neoplasms, and exposure to environmental triggers. Allergic diseases: allergic dermatitis, bright red, flat, oozing or exudate ---> dull red or pink, dry lichenified skin, transepidermal water loss. Impaired skin barrier: chronic sinusitis + nasal polyps, eosinophil rich nasal polyps, chronic sinusitis, mucus production, allergic asthma. Sm contractility: mucus production, bronchoconstriction, airway hyper-responsiveness, airway obstruction, wheeze, urticaria, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis. Hypersensitivity: overactive immune response to 3 types of allergens. Influenza: damages epithelial cells in respiratory tract & sometimes elicits an exaggerated immune response more damaging than virus itself, cytokine storm -> leukocyte migration to lungs -> vascular changes causing hypotension and coagulation.
