Sleep-deprived subjects have more lane steering deviations & more simulated crashes: circadian factors - early morning or mid-afternoon is the most susceptible times for a crash, teenage and young adults. Immature prefrontal cortex with incompletely developed executive function and judgement: greater susceptibility to the effects of sleep deprivation - slower reaction times compared to older drivers when sleep deprived, greater impulsivity or aggression or risky decision making. Sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders: osa - 2-3x increased risk of crashes, impaired psychomotor vigilance, mild to moderate untreated osa similar to bac 0l06, narcolepsy, chronic insomnia (+/- use of hypnotics to treat insomnia)
