Week 6 Lecture – Corinth, Sparta and the cults of Dionysos and Demeter
Corinth:
Armed Aphrodite, Poseidon, Helios, Athena, Hera and Apollo
Form Acrocorinth to the Isthmia
Revived the same gods and goddesses in the same places
Classic and Hellenistic cities
Isthmus – site of the Isthmia festival and Poseidon’s Sanctuary
Acrocorinth – temple of Armed Aphrodite, Eros and Helios
Corinth – coins of Greek and Roman
Classical Corinth – Agora (temple, racecourse, theatre, springs)
Roman Corinth – Agora with the Roman forum
Agora – Doric Temple (built 6BC for either Athena, Hera or Apollo)
