HESC1501 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Medical History, Blood Lipids, Cardiovascular Disease
Document Summary
Lecture 20 - 15/05/18 - exercise and aging. Impaired mobility: stroke, obesity, diabetes, high cholestrol, parkinsons disease, arthiritis, osteoperosis, heart disease, poor balance, high blood pressure, dementia. These two aspects are the most important factors regarding mortality, functional independence and quality of life. Impaired reaction time: lower limb extremity wealness, general sacropenia, multiple medications. All lead to comprised balance and thus increase falls risk and injury. If you have a chronic disease then you are much more likely to suffer from a disease. Improve weight management: reduce falls risk, manage/treat chronic conditions. Increased walking distance: reduction in falls risk, greater ability to do house chores, keep up with grandchildren. Independently sit to stand: normalised blood pressure. Important considerations: safety, transport, mobility devices, support networks, finance, social activity, unfamiliar / resistance to exercise. Relevant: rom, balance, walking distance, lower limb stregth, anthropometry, blood pressure. Irrelevant: vo2 max, skin folds, berg balance.
