Weak states: rwanda parallels with nazi germany, but weak, race hatred, memory of victimhood, pressure on land, bosnia weak/dodgy state, paramilitary groups around powerful figures, violence to pave new state. War: violence not ended with armistice, dehumanises the enemy, ci(cid:448)ilia(cid:374) (cid:858)e(cid:374)e(cid:373)y(cid:859) to occupyi(cid:374)g a(cid:396)(cid:373)y, media acts as agent of violence, permits detention, forced exile, forced labour. Idea of perfection means to achieve: religious ideology pre-20th c, not only extreme left/right us in cold war, motive for violence difference for nazis and stalinists.
