It supplies our needs for clothing and building materials. What is photosynthesis: a light dependent, anaerobic form of metaboism. Conversion of unusable sunlight energy into usable chemical energy: two forms, oxygenic, anoygenic, energy supplied by sunlight, electrons supplied inorganic or organic molecules, carbondioxide is reduced to glucose which is used for biosynthesis and energy production. Endosymbiotic theory: mitochondria and chloroplasts are the result of evolution initiated by endocytosis of bacteria, endocytosis is when a substance gains entry into a cell without passing through its cell membrane. A cells plasma membrane invaginates then closes off to trap foreign material inside: molecular and biochemical evidence suggests that the chloroplast developed from cyanobacteria. Evidence for endosymbiotic theory: size of bacteria = mitochondria and plastids, mitochondria and plastics divide by binary fission; same as bacteria, mitochondria and choloplasts have their own dna (circular bacteria bacteria) and ribosomes.
