Interstitial Fluid Dynamics
L1 - the dynamics of tissue interstitial fluid formation
L2 - abnormalities of blood flow, and
L3 - abnormalities of haemostasis.
Body Fluid:
Normal
~60% of lean body weight= water
2/3 intracellular, 1/3 extracellular
Abnormal
↓ ECF = DEHYDRATION
Excess extracellular fluid = OEDEMA/ EFFUSION
Fluid in tissues= oedema;
Fluid in body cavities= effusion

Transudate - little bit leaky (watery fluid)--> Exudate - very leaky (more cells and larger proteins)

Increases intravascular pressure can cause fluid to leak out. Lymphatics are the bodies drainage system, therefore if it gets blocked, fluid will accumulate. Decreased blood oncotic pressure can cause fluid to escape the blood vessel, as there is no osmotic hold and thus fluid will move to the higher osmotic pressure. Increased vascular permeability, this can cause fluid to ooze out. Sites of oedema formation: cause, gravity, tissue tension - tight skin with low interstitial space is less likely to get fluid accumulation.
