Gene behaviour associations in development
Neuro-developmental Disorders
Neurodevelopmental disorders arise from abnormalities in growth and development of:
-The Brain
-The Central Nervous System
These abnormalities give rise to disordered cognitive function, such as:
-emotion regulation
-learning ability
-self-control and memory
Typical Brain development:
-Our genes orchestrate generating new brain cells
-These cells then migrate to the right spots
-And then forming connections between the neurones
-Unnecessary connections get pruned
Once the brain is fully formed:
-Our genes are responsible for producing proteins in the brain!
(such as neurotransmitters & their receptors)
-Our genes also maintain the health of the cells in the brain
Neuro-developmental disorders can be a result of:
-Intrauterine environment
-extrauterine environment
-Genetics:
1. Chromosomal Disorders
2. Single Gene Disorders
3. Multiple gene disorders
