Parents influence their children"s behavior, which in turn feeds back to influence their parents and so on. It is crucial to keep bidirectional influences in mind, because pop psychology is chock-full of unidirectional explanations: those that attempt to explain development in terms of a one headed arrow. Mao places children at elevated risk for committing violent crimes later in life. However, not all children with low mao activity is associated with violence depends on a specific environmental factor. Children with mao and bad environment (physical abuse) were at risk for antisocial behaviors like stealing, assault and rape.
