Psych 1b week 2 social psychology pre-class videos. 2 different groups of boys went to a camp and bonded separately. When put together, they had hostile feelings toward the other. What would it take for rivals to overcome their differences and resolve their conflicts. Realistic conflict theory = conflict happens when you combine negative prejudices with competition over resources. Integration and shared goals that could only be completed through cooperation make friends from enemies. Aggression = behaviour intended to hurt or destroy someone, something or yourself. Where aggression comes from/influences- combination of biological factors (genetic, neurological and biochemical) and our environment and experience. Genetic = if one identical twin has an aggressive temper, often the other has one too. Neurologically = no single area of the brain controls aggression. Link bw aggression and diminished activity in the frontal lobes (which controls impulse control). Frustration-aggression hypothesis; people become aggressive when they"re blocked from reaching a goal.
