PHY3181 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Vas Deferens, P2X Purinoreceptor, Knockout Mouse
Document Summary
All the tubes in the reproductive tract have the same fundamental anatomy. Nerves: allows squeeze allows seminal fluid to get where it needs to go. In females don"t need nerves for reproduction: need skeletal muscle (therefore, nerves) for the final push of baby however, the baby can be pulled it by this point, autonomic nerves disappear during pregnancy don"t need them here. In males need nerves: can"t get an erection, ejaculate properly, diabetes can damage nerves. Not a synapse it is a junction much bigger. Atp still comes down, causes release of docked vesicles. Junctional receptors on the vas deferens because they give a faster contraction. Atp acts on p2x receptor on smooth muscle: atp is in vesicle for final synthesis of noradrenaline when vesicle package is released, atp is also released. Need both na and atp for contraction: 2-phase contraction atp is fast first part of contraction. Can cause oxytocin release contracts uterus to help sperm movement.
