Document Summary

Sensory processing definition: the ability to process sensory information in the cns for adaptive behaviours. Internal monitoring systems: vestibular movement and balance, proprioception and kinaesthesia body position and movement. Sensory integration: through sensory integration, the brain can relate all sensory inputs into a coherent percept, upon which our interaction with the environment is ultimately based. Sensory information is processed in the brain relative to 2 uses: Sequenced, flexible, adaptive behaviour (use the info in a useful way wear a jacket if its cold). Intensity: responsivity: a range within which sensory input is tolerated and used, the wider the range of tolerance, the more likely it is that the child maintains regulated and adaptive behaviour. If the range is narrow its likely that the child will: have a limited range of behaviours, only be able to perform in a limited number of sensory environments.
