Week 8 - Software Quality Assurance
The purpose:
● To prevent problems from occurring
● Detect them when they do
● Identify the cause
● Remedy the cause
● Prevent reoccurrence
Software Quality Management
● The goal is user satisfaction
○ Compliant product
○ Good quality
○ Delivery within budget and schedule
Quality Process
● Quality Objectives
○ To achieve and sustain the quality of the product or service to meet the
customer's needs
○ Provide confidence to management that the quality is being achieved and
maintained
○ Provide confidence to the customer that the quality is being achieved
● Quality Policy
○ The overall quality intentions and direction of an organisation as regards quality
● Quality Management
○ That aspect of the overall management function that determines and implements
the quality policy
● Quality System
○ The organizational structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes and
resources for implementing quality management
● Quality Control
○ The operational techniques and activities that are used to fulfil requirements for
quality
○ Involves evaluation performance, comparing goals and acting on the differences
○ Quality control involves the checking of the product
○ Works with products
■ Measures products against a standard
■ Identifies defects
■ Is limited to looking at products
● Quality Assurance
○ Involves the checking of the process
