WHAT IS POVERTY
Lacking basic needs for life
- Comprised of many factors (low income, lack of support networks, inability to realise
potential, lacking resources to participate in community etc.)
- Dignity in form of clothing is CRUCIAL for morale
- Media shapes our images of poverty (typical Haiti earthquake pictures)
MEASURING POVERTY
- Money based approach
o Output/income (GDP etc.) or Poverty Lines ($2 a day etc.)
- Indicator based approach
o Food / shelter / health / economic livelihood / education etc.
