First sociological theory is the social disorganization and the study of crime and space. Emphasizes how social and structural factors influence criminality. This theory relates to social-positivism in that there"s driving factors in areas that will make the person more likely to commit the crime. Differs to classical criminology as it treats every person that commit crimes the same (rational thinkers) A "modern" metropolis ~ the quintessential modern metropolis as it was basically seen as the perfect environment for observing the social impact of major transformations that were taking place. A parallel can be drawn here between the rational choice theory about crime and economics, the idea being that industrialization was seen as a pull factor that attracted people seeking a better life. University of chicago as the birthplace of american sociology/criminology in 1892 ~ this served as the environment.
