EAE1022 Lecture Notes - Lecture 32: Sea Level Rise, Coast, Adaptive Capacity
Document Summary
Eae1022 lecture 32 - earth, atmosphere and environment. Not mutually exclusive likely that we will need all three solutions. Involves building adaptive capacity to increase the ability of individuals, groups or organisations to adjust to changes and implementing adaptation decisions. Sea level rise already occurring rise of approx. 195 mm from 1870-2004: projections show 180 590 mm rise by 2100, mostly associated with thermal expansion of the oceans. Large uncertainties in ice melt and feedbacks in the climate system mean sea level rise could potentially be much higher order of metres. All major australian cities (except canberra) will potentially be affected by rising sea levels.
