Location of many complex cellular chemical reactions and metabolic pathways. Biosynthesis of sugars, fatty acids and amino acids. Esp in muscle, sperm tail, renal tubular cells. Sperm too small and cannot fit mt. Has some control over cell cycle and growth. Synthesis and metabolism of steroids and lipids.
