Document Summary

What are chromosomal and non-chromosomal genes? and what are their different roles. Chromosomal replication the entire genome must be replicated at least once per mitotic division cycle. Dna replication and cell division are highly linked. General principles : initiation of dna will commit the cell to the division cycle, prior to s phase. Once replication is initiated, it must be completed before division begin ie: the prophase. Dna replication occurs during the s phase before prophase. Replicons a unit of dna in which an individual act of replication occurs a replicon must have a replication region that defines where replication will begin. All replicons have a replication origin bacterial replicons have a terminus where replication ends (remember bacteria chromosomes are circular) Eukaryotic replicons on the other hand end up fusing together when multiple replication bubbles merge. Eukaryotic chromosomes may have multiple origins thus multiple replicons. Replication is bidirectional ie : the replication bubble.
