The difference becomes deviance when others view it as a way of breaking the acceptable norm. So being a slut is not a crime alcoholic is not a crime . All crimes are forms of deviance though. In order for deviance to be a crime it has to be codified it goes through a process of criminalization. Obesity for example was a sign of status and social class, good wealth. But now, obesity is actually a form of deviance we use the excuse of health. Tattoos signified membership in some deviant group like a biker gang but today most people consider it normal in western society. Criminalized, sin, but also accepted in older times now not and is. 20th century same sex marriage was legalized. First country to legalize is was netherlands. Slut for example is a woman who deviates from expected norms. This goes against all the research that we have clothing is not a significant factor in assault.
