How much influence does family have on children"s. The dynamic family can be vital for overcoming difficult events. Parent-child attachment shapes perceptions of the world & themselves. Child"s interpretation, susceptibility, and surrounding circumstances also matter. Substantial changes to any one member can change every other member. Some families can work together to overcome difficult events. Events that are too burdensome on a family can weaken relationships. An emotional bond between a parent and a child that endures across time and contexts. Case study (child-care and family predictors of attachment) found: Child care still led to positive attachment to mother. Supports both internal and external impacts on emotional development. Case study (infant attachment and the onset of puberty) found: Girls insecurely attached at 15 months = earlier maturation and completion (puberty) than securely attached. Important for learning conflict resolution & peer maintenance: sibling coalition, older sibling: caregiver and teacher, younger sibling: offer trust, respect and admiration.
