PHYS30005 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Myosatellite Cell, Myofibril, Conceptual Framework
Document Summary
Muscle will adapt optimally to exercise that moderately exceeds their capacity. Requires a gradual progression in training load in order to maximise performance. Limits to the physiological and anatomical development that can be achieved. Limitations genetics (we are not all created equal with the same adaptive potential) Muscle plasticity can occur through electrical stimulation to elicit an exercise-like effect (for people (cid:449)ho (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:859)t e(cid:454)er(cid:272)ise e. g. i(cid:374)te(cid:374)si(cid:448)e (cid:272)are, i(cid:374)jured) During electrical stimulation: all of these ^^ activation patterns are abolished, activates all motor units synchronously and with the same impulse pattern. Adaptations of skeletal muscle to endurance training: changes to central and peripheral circulation, co, muscle blood flow, muscle metabolism; muscle respiratory capacity. Fibre composition: little/no change in fibre size or fibre proportions i. e. no fast slow twitch conversion but subtle changes among fast fibre subtypes: iib iia (glycolytic to oxidative phenotype)
