Glycogen is a body storage carbohydrate that provides about half the energy muscle and other body tissues. Very hard to obtain through foods, hence excess carbohydrate is stored. Vegetable (starch, little bit of sugar, lots of fibre), legumes (mostly complex carbs different from veggies) and fruits (mostly simple carbs). Cannot taste starch, but yes to glucose and fructose. Milk products (yoghurt, cheese) provide lactose (simple carb, no dietary fibres), and important energy source for infants. Monosaccharides (1 sugar unit) and disaccharides (2 sugars joined together) are simple carbs. Most are hexoses with empirical formula c6h12o6. Glucose serves as the essential energy source (found in call carbs) and is commonly known as blood sugar or dextrose. It provides nearly all the energy the human brain uses daily.
