STEREOISOMERISM & CYCLOALKANES
CHAPTER
ENANTIOMERS
NOMENCLATURE OF ENANTIOMERS
•7LSn-InRYVO-CrPVYR (7IC) FPquPnNP EuVP
•Step 1: Identify the 4 different substituents attached to carbon and list
them in order of increasing atomic number of the atom attached
directly to the chiral centre and accordingly assign them a priority (4),
(3), (2), (1)
•
CYCLOALKANES
•Comprised of carbon chains forming rings or cycles their general formula is CnH2n, where n = 3,
4, 5, 6 (can’t have a 2 ring).
SYSTEMATIC NOMENCLATURE
•Rule 1. Add the prefix ‘cyclo’ to the parent
alkane name: Eg. cycloheptane.
•Rule 2. Substituents are arranged
alphabetically with lowest possible numbers
and begin numbering at the substituent with
alphabetical priority.
