Document Summary

Leydigcell di erentiation: increase sensitivity of leydigcells to lh increased testosterone production (steroidogenesis, testosterone (leydig) and inhibin (sertoli) inhibitionof gnrh and fsh/lh secretion (negative, feedback mechanism, hypophysectomy stops steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis. The process takes place form the basal to adluminal side. Cellular basis of spermatogenesis is sub-divided into: mitotic proliferation, meiotid divisions - cellular meiosis (cytokinesis) and nuclear meiosis (karyokinesis, cytodi erentiation. Mitotic proliferation: spermatogonia (progenitor stem cells), resting close to the basement membrane of the seminiferous tubules, periodical (~43h intervals) four divisions occur leading to: All spermatogonial daughter cells remain int he basal compartment as stem cells except the one which di erentiate (type b daughter cell) into resting primary spermatocyte. Blood testis barrier will open, allowing the resting primary spermatocytes to move into the adluminal space, btb closes: mitotic division = from spermatogonium to primary spermatocyte. Need two meiotic divisions in order to end up at the same place as the cellular meiotic divisions.
