ANAT30007 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Pelvic Brim, Levator Scapulae Muscle, Prostate Cancer
Document Summary
As we age we develop more curves. Adult spinal column: cervical and lumbar lordosis, thoracic and sacral kyphosis. Sheet of bone uniting the processes = lamina. From posterior margins on vertebral body emerges a pillar of bone on either side = pedicle. From one pedicle through to lamina and onto next pedicle = Vertebral foramen (these line up to form vertebral canal) Superior border of pedicle creates a shallow space = superior vertebral notch. Transverse processes have additional features: transverse foramen facilitates passage of vertebral artery at almost all of these levels, anterior and posterior tubercles additional muscle attachment. Vertebral body as you age develops unique features: lateral margins uncinate processes (appear later in life) No vertebral body anteriorly there is small anterior tubercle. Instead of spinous process posteriorly small posterior tubercle. Small anterior tubercle connects to the rest of the vertebra via anterior arch. Posterior tubercle connects via long + slendour posterior arch.
