Document Summary

Lecture 27 vessels of the lower limb. Single stem artery branches into other arteries as it travels down the limb, and changes its name depending on which region it is passing through. Have circumflex vessels coming off femoral artery to anastomose around the hip and genicular vessels coming off popliteal artery to anastomose around knee. Adductor magnus has little holes in it (adductor hiatus) to allow passage of femoral artery and branches (perforating branches to posterior thigh) Lump in femoral triangle just medial to femoral artery = femoral hernia (abdominal contents push out through femoral ring) more common in women because they have wider hips so femoral ring tends to be a bit bigger. Fracture of shaft of femur often has horrendous bleeding because broken shaft spike can puncture/lacerate the profunda femoris artery. Popliteal fossa superficial to deep = tibial nerve, popliteal vein then popliteal artery. Structures passing deep to extensor retimnaculum on dorsum of foot.
