Identify terminal branches as they emerge from borders of Psoas major
Branches emerge from lateral border of psoas onto quadratus lumborum (part of

Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (L2,3): swings wide on iliacus, tucks under lateral edge of
inguinal ligament where it attaches to ASIS - runs in lateral thigh cutaneous tissues
(compressed against ASIS in pregnant/obese people)
Major terminal branch, supplies anterior thigh
Runs in gutter between psoas and iliacus
Femoral nerve (L2,3,4)
Genital branch supplies spermatic cord, enters inguinal canal
Femoral branch goes under inguinal ligament, supplies skin over femoral triangle
1 Onto anterior surface: Genitofemoral nerve (L1,2): like two nerves in one sheath, splits into
genital and femoral branches
1 From medial border: Obturator nerve (L2,3,4): supplies medial compartment of thigh
Sacral plexus
