41 views6 pages
Walking to running -> forces around 2x the weight of the body
Jumping -> forces around 5x the weight of the body
Large amount of forces transferred through the foot
Arches of the foot assist to spread the weight of the foot (suction cups)
Tendons and fascia assist with weight bearing
Weight bearing -> in standing to walking, the compressive forces on the foot are around 1.2x
the weight of the body
Navicular (anterior to the talus): Tuberosity for tibialis posterior tendon on
plantar side
Cuboid (Lateral to the navicular): Tuberosity of cuboid, groove for fibularis longus
Middle row:
Distal row: 3 Cuneiforms - Medial (1st), intermediate (2nd), lateral (3rd)
Tarsal bones in 3 rows
1st metatarsal is most robust, 2nd is narrowest and wedged in by 1st/3rd
5th metatarsal also robust, has tuberosity for lateral compartment muscles
Metatarsals (5):
2 in hallux (proximal and distal)
3 in each digit
Phalanges (14)
2 sesamoids on plantar surface of the foot - embedded in tendon of the FHB
