Arteries
Subclavian artery: from origin (brachiocephalic trunk) to outer border of first rib
Axillary artery: to inferior border of teres major
Profunda brachii artery supplies posterior compartment of arm: winds around back of
humerus in spiral groove with radial nerve, then anastomoses at elbow joint
Brachial artery: to neck of radius, divides into 2 terminal branches
Radial artery
Arteries located on flexor aspect of limbs for protection - prone to kinking, so anastomoses
present at scapula, shoulder, elbow, wrist, palm of hand
4.3 Vessels of the upper limb

Divided into three parts by pectoralis minor - before, deep, after
1st part has 1 branch, 2nd part has 2 branches, 3rd part has 3 branches - these supply the wall
of the axilla (anterior/posterior muscle groups associated with chest wall, lateral chest wall
and humerus)
From 3rd part: Posterior/anterior circumflex arteries anastomose around surgical neck of
humerus
Part of neurovascular bundle comprising brachial plexus, axillary artery/vein

Course of brachial artery: medial to humerus > anterior to humerus midway between
lateral/medial epicondyles
Triad of structures crossing front of elbow joint: tendon of biceps, brachial artery, median
nerve (BAN)
Radial artery tucks under brachioradialis
Ulnar artery tucks under flexor carpi ulnaris
