Statistics is the science of learning from data, in other words, converting data to information. Statistics involves designing a study, then collecting, presenting, analysing data, and interpreting results. We are presented with situations which require us to make decisions based on an innate understanding of statistics. Two kids are playing a board game, the game has 24 chance cards of which 12 give the player a free roller coaster ride. In one game: a. natalie lands on chance 10 times and gets 6 free roller coaster rides: natalie probably played fairly or she may have cheated. Matthew lands on chance 12 times and gets 10 free roller coaster rides: matthew probably played fairly or he may have cheated. Natalie probably played fairly and matthew may have cheated. A primary objective of the statistician is to obtain information about a target population, using a sample. The target population comprises all relevant subjects of interest.
