Science is increasingly involved in policy processes to legitimate political decisions, but this brings into question the autonomy and the objectivity of science. Scientists use data to develop an objective view of the world while politicians look at opinion polls because elections are the most important political arena. Therefore; there is a conflict in rationalities when it comes to environmental issues between the industries, science, and politics. Each social system observes the environment and its issues in its own unique way. Science: observes objective knowledge about nature, aims to understand the dynamics of natural processes, and the impact of humans. Industry: focuses chiefly on profit, sees the environment and a resource, sees advances such as renewable energy technology as a possible avenue for revenue.
