Why do we need to learn statistics: partly statistics is part of scientific method, psychology is a science. Need a framework to gather observation and information. Using anecdotal evidence = human bias opinion = interpret inconsistent information. Need a formal method to test a theory. Comes from a particular theory observation, reading literature and prior research. Collect information in form of data to evaluate predictions. Use the theory to produce a hypothesis prediction. Research study is an experiment or survey something to collect data. Data collected is designed to address the hypothesis. Data needs to be analysed statistical method. Based on the analysis, a conclusion is drawn. Statistical methods are an essential part of psychological science and research: quantitative research methods. Scientific method cannot be answered without the support of statistical methods. Psychology is (usually) interested in people on a big scale: adolescents. Questions in psychology are usually about people in general population.
