Humerus, radius, ulna, metacarpals, femur, tibia, fibula, metatarsals and phalanges: typical long bone: A cylinder of compact bone around the inner (medullary) cavity. Outer surface surrounded by a layer of connective tissue (periosteum; nutrient foramen) Lined with thin layer of connective tissue (endosteum) In growing bone contains epiphysis (growth plate) of hyaline cartilage: short bones: Cube shaped (nearly equal in length and width)
