Provides tool kit of perspectives and approaches to draw on during relevant situations: work in organisations, organisation group of people who work together to achieve a common purpose/goal. Who are managers: distinct purpose/goal, educate, generate research, make profit, people working together to achieve a goal, deliberate systematic structure (sets out workings of an organisation) Efficiency vs effectively: effectiveness ability to carry out tasks successfully, efficiency the amount of resources used to achieve a goal. Management pyramid: top managers create and implement company policies, middle managers implement policies of tm, monitor and control lw. Lower managers direct daily tasks of non-managerial people. Types of managers: functional manager responsible for only one organisational activity, general manager responsible for several organisational activities. Types of organisations: for-profit, non-profit, mutual-benefit for aiding members. Brief job categorisation: rely more on verbal than written, fragmentation, delegation, brevity and variety.
