It is estimated that almost half of australian adults age 16 - 85, that is 9. 7 million people, will experience a common mental disorder in their lifetime, in each year, 1 in 5 australians. 4. 3 million australians, are estimated to experience a mental disorder. Burden of disease: mental disorders come in third and are the leading cause of the non-fatal burden, the burden of disease looks at the fatal and non-fatal impact of a disease on our society.
