Document Summary
Each time we move in an organised manner, brain activation and integration occurs and the door to learning is open. Curriculum: k-3: the emphasis is on developing fundamental movement skills (fms, 3-6: games in which fms are applied, 7-12: sports in which fms and games strategies are applied in modified and then open sports situations. An understanding of motor development is important in order for teachers to provide a developmentally appropriate pe curriculum in which children"s skill levels improve. Motor skills, and later movement skills, do not simply occur with maturation. Movement thought to being at birth as this is the most observable however, movement actually begins in the utero with sub cortically controlled reflexive movements. These early foetal reflexive movements are present in order to ensure survival within the uterus, provide practice for movements required after birth, and assist in the development of the skeletal system.
