80 views3 pages

Document Summary

Sensory receptors: separate specialised cells which detect temp, pain, light, etc. Effector organ/cell: organ, tissue or cell in which an action takes place. Ganglion: collection of cell bodies outside the cns. Plexus: extensive network of axons or cell bodies. Cell body of neuron 1 in cns, cell body of neuron 2 in autonomic ganglion. Trigger zone = axon hillock + initial segment. Forms support framework for blood vessels and neurons. Assists in formation of tight junctions between endothelial cells of capillaries. Lines centre cavities of brain and spinal cord. Not as thick as the sheath formed by schwann cells, hence called unmyelinated. Provide support and nutrition to cell bodies in ganglia. Due to differences in ion concentration (particularly na+ and k+) across the cell membrane, as well as permeability of the cell membrane to ions. Cell membrane has more k+ leak channels than na+ Diff. in charge across the membrane of a resting cell.
