HUMB1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Gross Anatomy, Histology, Organism
Document Summary
Surface anatomy: study of the external form of the body and how that relates to deeper structures. Histology: study of tissue and the cells that make tissue up. Developmental anatomy: structural changes that occur over a life span. Organisation: relationships among the parts of an organism which interact to perform functions. Responsiveness: can sense and adjust to environmental changes. Supine: lying face up (palms up) (can only hold soup with palm up) Superior: towards the head e. g. head is superior to the neck. Inferior: towards the tail, e. g. the pelvis is inferior to the stomach. Anterior: towards front of body, e. g. breast is anterior to the spine. Proximal: nearest to the point of attachment, e. g. elbow is proximal to the wrist, i. e. Proximal: nearest to the point of attachment, e. g. elbow is proximal to the wrist, i. e. elbow is closer to the point of attachment (the shoulder) than the wrist.
