Proximal: nearest to the point of attachment, e. g. elbow is proximal to the wrist, i. e. Proximal: nearest to the point of attachment, e. g. elbow is proximal to the wrist, i. e. elbow is closer to the point of attachment (the shoulder) than the wrist.
