Document Summary

Mutation of powerful oncogenes and tumour suppressors is not enough to make a tumour. One side -> all due to mutations, defects in the chromosomes are the cause of cancer. Other side -> each cell comes from by other cells, and that cancer comes from chronic inflammation -> different to mutation, but will also result in damage. Both seem to be true to make secondary metastasis grow. Pathways that regulate transcription factors in the nucleus -> cell survial and proliferation. Growth factor receptors in plasma membrane -> activated by growth factors. These are turned on in metastatic cancers -> need something else to create a macro-metastasis. These growth factor pathways are not the only thing driving the metastatic pathway -> so there are other labs. Mechanical forces: hallmark of metastatic cancer -> why does the lump you can feel, feel different to your other tissue. Due to the tough ecm around a metastatic tumour -> fundamental hallmark.
