Social cognition - interested in how mental process are associated with social understanding and reactions. Social identity beliefs about the group(s) to which we belong. Evaluation of self-worth (positive or negative evaluation/am i good enough?) Temporal comparison - compare current self to how you were in the past. Social perception - forming impressions of and make inferences about other people. Schema - organisation of knowledge relating to a particular topic in long term memory. Schemas influence: attention: information consistent with schema gets more attention, memory: information consistent with schema is more likely to be remembered. Judgements: make judgments based on information stored in schema. Schemas about a person or group can have a strong bias on what is seen remembered and interpreted. Face perception of trustworthiness in 10th of a second. Socioeconomic status from non-verbal in 1 minute: negative traits carry more weight than positive.
