Nih definition: usually present at birth, negatively affect an individual"s development, often affect multiple body parts of systems. Intellectual disability: starts before 18 y/o, problems with intellectual functioning (ability to learn, reason, problem solve) and adaptive behaviour (everyday social and life skills, can affect multiple body systems and functions in addition to brain functioning. Developmental disabilities : usually results in reduced capacity in 3 or more major life activities (communication, learning, mobility, living independently, decision making, self-care, need for support) People with intellectual disability: health genetics, lifestyle and disability, decreased life expectancy. Increased physical health conditions e. g. op, heart disease, diabetes. Increased co-occurring impairments e. g. pain, deconditioning, obesity, fatigue. Increased psychosocial health conditions e. g. sleep problems, anxiety, isolation, depression.
