States that development moves from the centre of the body outward. Movements such as lifting the head, sitting, rolling over, reaching and grasping. The brain develops quicker than any other organ in early childhood. 1 yr old- triples in weights from birth and is 70% of its adult weight. 2 yrs old- brain is 75% of its adult weight. 5 yrs old- brain is 90% of its adult weight. The group of gross motor skills that include one of the biggest physical development milestones of all for young children: walking! Locomotor skills are those in which the feet move the body from one place to another.
