We will explore the development of people through the lifespan including the cognitive, psychosocial, family and personality development of/through: infants, early childhood, middle and late childhood, adolescence, young and middle adulthood, older adulthood. We will also explore the theorists who describe these stages and their theories. Child moves into formal operational stage (begins at 11-12 years and continues into adulthood) Gains the ability to formulate hypotheses and systematically test them out in order to address clear problems. Taller and thinner, grows 5 to 10 cm a year. Facial changes nose larger, jaw juts out, lips are fuller. Proficiency in large muscle activities: running, swimming and bike riding. Refining small muscle activities: writing, painting, model building. Emotional and social development: peers become increasingly more important, school becomes increasingly important, childs early dependence on parents begin to lessen. Psychosocial: developing personalities, play fixed rules and goals, same sex friends. Less egocentric starting to see that other people have different views to them.
