-What is being human? > the tension between being and becoming is a basic structure of
human existence and it related to the fact we live in time > in other words an individual
already exists as someone, but at the same time they are on the way to becoming
someone.
-No one is all good and no one is all bad > it may be hard to see the goodness in others
-Nelson Mandela > politician? Leader? Lawyer? Prisoner? Shepherd? Runner/Boxer?
Husband? Father? Communist? Democrat?
-Apartheid in South Africa > the majority, native Africans, treated worse than animals by
the white people minority > worldwide sporting sector expelled South Africa bc them
competing would
-See someones dignity being eroded you have to weigh up whether you make a change
or not to help them
-Being vs Becoming. Facts vs Possibility. Rationality vs Non-rational. Responsibility v
Powerlessness. Embodiment vs Transcendence. Autonomy vs interdependence.
Freedom vs determination.
