•University for Refugees, Thai Burma border > Temporary accomodation for Burmese
refugees living in 9 camps on the Thai border has for some been for 30 years. Some
ACU Diploma students, now in their twenties, were born in these camps where
primary and secondary education is provided by non-government organisations but is
not recognised outside the camps. ACU in partnership since 2009 with York University
in Canada through a combination of online and face-to-face lessons has seen over
150 graduates giving them access to internationally recognised qualifications in higher
education. Most of whom are employed now.
