7.2 Differentiate between the five fundamental types of indirect cell to cell communication
Endocrine signalling:
o Messenger molecule is call a hormone
o Produced by an endocrine gland
o Reaches target cells via bloodstream and may travel long distances
o Examples:
Thyroid gland
Adrenal cortex
Testes
o
Paracrine signalling:
o Messenger molecules is called a paracrine hormone
o Produced by a paracrine gland
o Does not enter the bloodstream
o Examples:
Paracrine hormones
Gastrointestinal tract
o
Neurotransmission:
o Messenger molecule is called a neurotransmitter
o Produced by a neuron
